i am wondering what the best core to use to make a curved blade (wood dowl rod may be) i am thinking of making a cutlass

I have a curved blade and it was made with a PVC core, unsure how it was done because i didn't make it.

I've heard a lot of people use steam to soften the PVC and bend it. Never had much luck with it myself, but I'm not terribly patient about such things.
There's also a thing called a Pipe Viper (pipeviper.com) that's pretty easy to use.
I've also seen people use straight fiberglass, building curved foam around it. That doesn't allow for a lot of curve, though.
