I'm getting a 6' bandshoppe pole here on Sunday and I think I want to make a glaive with it. It would be around 6'5 (about an inch taller than me) and consist of a single striking edge and a shield hook and a stabby tip. I'm going for versitility with this weapon, being able to fight 1v1 but also help in team fights. The shield hook is going to be 8lb poly foam (the same stuff I used for my axe) So after it's mounted over the core and gotten it's extra layer of 12oz layer I should be able to PULL shieldmen without it budging at all. I'm also going to put tassels around the base of the blade for distraction/aesthetic purposes. Anything you guys think I should add/change?

So got my bandshoppe pole today! (Thanks Gorbag) Went out to the garage and put the shield hook on it.. Now the question is.. should I make the top of the shield hook a striking surface? It seems like if I'm trying to pull their shield I could jab them with that section too...

So, I've gotten a lot done with it.. and it turned into padding the shield hook enough to hit with it, lol. I'll put another layer on and then post another picture, though at this point I might be just talking to myself, lol.

So here's where I am now. A layer of yoga mat over two layers of foam. It's either another layer of yoga mat for the tip and the hook and then another layer of blue foam, or go out and get some thicker marine foam and use that for the tip.. hmmm

And after 10 more layers of blue foam, then shaping the blade and reinforcing it... I'll also reinforce the main blade on the sides with leather and finally a single blue foam layer.

Layering blue over marine foam isn't a great idea really. I always put marine on the outer most layer because otherwise it won't do it's job correctly.

If you add over an inch of marine/yoga foam for stabbing tips it'll lead to tearing as the foam compresses outward. With a single layer of regular blue foam or EVA over the softer foam you create a more solid blade that will last longer with the same safety. The initial hit will have more omph to it, but if it's a solid hit the two layers of yoga mat will absorb the rest of the impact. Before reaching other layers.
