The Hellheim Invasion weekend will be held at the Four Winds Renaissance Fairegrounds in Tyler, TX on August 5-7. www.fourwindsfaire.com/Event Details What: Hellheim Invasion! When: August 5 (Early Afternoon) to the 7th. Where: Four Winds Ren Fairegrounds 21852 County Road 2178, Troup, TX 75789 Cost: $15 for pre-reg, $20 for walk ins. Rules: If you're fighting, then minimum garb WILL be enforced! *More to come* We are still looking for ideas for senario battles and will most likely have some good ones planned once we know a little bit more about the area we have to work with. I will be arriving early on Friday so that should be covered. We do need some volunteers for security as well as a team to make sure we leave pristine! The Emerald Fang is taking care of the 500 dollar deposit and we would love to get all our money back after the event. The event fee is still up in the air, but you plan on it being about 15 dollars to cover camping and location fees. (Warning, this is just an estimate, I'l update this post when we have more information!)See above. We also need some volunteer heralds to work some of the battles. Would love to get quite a few of these so heralds only have to sit out of one of the battles as we rotate duties. I'm excited that we may be getting quite a few out of state people this time around. I'll do my best with Karina to make this a wonderful event! Facebook event page: www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=199892640041852Directions to the event From their site: "We're located 15 miles south of Tyler, Texas. Our physical address is 21852 County Road 2178, Troup, TX 75789." A closeup of the site: Less than an hour from Dallas: ***I will update this post with information as I get it, check back frequently***

So here's the long-promised garb write-up for Helheim Invasion. The short version is: try to look like you want to be cast as an extra in a cool medieval fantasy movie. Do it right. Don't half-ass it. ESPN's going to be there, and we want to impress them and their audience, so get dressed and stay dressed!
The good news is that almost everyone I've seen lately has great garb, so this shouldn't be much of a problem for most people. However, there are some new folks and cross-gamers who may not know about certain of our garb rules, so here's a list of clarifications that you should look over to make sure you get to play with the rest of us come August:
1. Sports jerseys or "Amt jerseys" - These are typically t-tunics or even Bocksten tunics with color blocking, fancy borders, and big block numbers and even names appliqued on the back, front, or sleeves. They're cute and funny, but they do not pass Dagorhir's garb rules. The color blocking and fancy borders are fine, but the numbers and names are what kills it. It's modern. Glaringly modern. So don't wear tunics with numbers on them.
2. Hats - Some hats are good, some are bad, and some fall in the middle.
2.a. Good hats - archer caps, Phrygian caps, arming caps, slouch hats with domed or cylindrical crowns, swing/sun hats, coolie hats, domed straw hats, lansknecht hats, Tudor caps, snoods, wimples, Jorvik/Coppergate caps, chaperones, mantled hoods, elf caps, muffin hats, berets/tams, mitres, skull caps, watch caps, jester caps, and any other historical type of hat or cap.
2.b. Bad hats - cowboy hats, bowlers, fedoras, stovepipes, tophats, pork pies, bucket hats, boaters, baseball caps, officer caps, bicornes, tricornes, cloches, coonskins, deerstalkers, hard hats, forage caps, Gatsbys/newsboys, driving caps, Trilbys, pith helmets, etc.
2.c. Sort of OK hats - Broad-brimmed panamas or Cubans, slouch hats with pinched or creased crowns, gaucho hats, and other hats that don't clash terribly with medieval clothing or scream "MODERN" to the semi-educated person's eye.
3. Sunglasses - Who am I kidding? This is Texas in the summer. People are going to wear shades. It's not wise to do it on the battlefield though, and whenever possible you should try a broad-brimmed hat instead. If you can get some Pince-Nez shades, you get minor points for style and for trying to look at least sort of medieval.
4. Sweats and scrubs - These are fine for bottom wear as long as you have something good on top, like a knee-length tunic or tabard. By themselves, or as part of a "Goodwill Special" outfit, they fail.
5. Jeans, carpenter/painter pants, "bondage" pants - Fail. You did read the rules, didn't you?
6. UnderArmor and other athletic wear - If it's shiny and modern, cover it up. If it has a logo, cover it up.
7. Footwear - If it passes the 10 foot glance check, it's fine. As usual, no cleats or spikes are allowed. White or colorful sneakers fail. OTOH, if you have a pair of white (or any other color) turnshoes or bearpaws, wear them and we will worship you.
8. Hot Topic/lingerie/tank tops - Fail. I like eye candy as much as any other straight guy, but you need to present it in a medieval style when you come to Dagorhir. Try a bodice or cotehardie or sideless surcoat instead.
9. The usual suspects - modern logos, neon colors, and modern styles and lines fail. Those are the rules. Leave them off, or cover them up.
10. Hacked t-shirts and polos - No. Just... no.
Finally, I have one minor pet peeve that may in some circumstances (usually if everything else is half-assed, too) cause your garb to fail: tunic or tabard length. When the rules say "crotch length or longer," they mean make it knee length or longer, then belt it up. They don't mean make something the length of a modern shirt and belt it up. However, if you make a crotch length cotehardie and wear it with hosen, a codpiece, turnshoes, and a chaperone, you will not only pass, you'll get free drinks.
So, remember that we're getting press coverage at this event. Don't half-ass it or try to get by with "good enough." Try to look your very best. Dress to impress.

Apologies both if this is addressed elsewhere, and if I am speaking out of turn by posting in this thread. I am not yet familiar with this forum's procedures, but I thought it might be on topic. My group currently has a great deal of confusion pertaining to the dress-code for the Masque, as they tend to traditionally be less "Mid" and more "Ren" in dress and style.
Not wanting to participate in any faux pas, could any clarification on the dress both required and/or suggested for this event?
(I promise this isn't just bait for more Whisper anecdotes. Honest.)
Thank you in advance, Ethos~

Thank you in advance, Ethos~ Ethos, dispite it being labeled as a "masquerade" by no means does this mean you must come in a Renn period garb. Its a party and a chance to mingle in fancy garb. Even Scotts and the Germanic tribes had something that could be called "cleaned up." As far as I know and am worried about, you only need to have your face obscured in some fashion, via mask, hood, wrap, or makeup. Although, I'm not the garb checkers, but everyone has their own style. I enjoy playing a 15th century German Landsknecht, though the garb isn't ready yet. Others like to be orcs, others English, some even Oriental. All you should need is nice garb. Not the sweaty fighting garb you just spent the day in.
